French Creole is the same as Haitian Creole. It is also synonymous of Creole. Haiti is not however the single country in the world where Creole is spoken and written. Indeed, several countries from the Caribbean speak Creole:
- Dominican Creole
- Grenadian Creole
- Guadeloupean Creole
- Louisiana Creole
- Mauritian Creole
- Reunionian Creole
- St. Lucian Creole
- St. Thomasian Creole
Each of these Creole has its own characteristics. Haitian Creole is certainly the unique one which is considered a language; it has its grammar, dictionary and is also recognized as another official language of Haiti. There may even be a need for Creole translation from, for example Louisiana Creole to Haitian Creole. Since Haitian Creole is certainly the unique Creole elevated to a language, most translations targeting the Haitian community or Haitian diaspora are done in Creole.
Haiti shares one island with the Dominican Republic where Spanish is spoken. Spanish translation to Creole is sometimes needed in the Dominican Republic to facilitate communication between Haitians ans Dominicans.
